Do DIY hands sanitizer really effective in killing coronavirus?
Do DIY hands sanitizer really effective in killing corona virus?
There is a pandemic going on now due to
corona virus which is spreading all over the world. This virus has two ways to
pass to you first is by droplet infection
when people cough or sneeze and secondly is by touching residue on surfaces or
touching someone who’s ill and then you touch your face by your infected hands
so it can pass to your Respiratory system.
So if you want to keep safe you have to be away at least meter of people who are coughing or sneezing and keep your hands clean and to keep it clean, you have to wash it but sometimes we aren’t able to wash our hands so we use hand sanitizer but according to the pandemic that's happening now as we mentioned before not everyone is able to find hand sanitizer even because it’s sold out or because some people raise their prices to have more money so according to all of these, we have been seeing a lot of DIY hands sanitizer recipes but do all of these recipes work?

The rules of effective hand sanitizers
Unfortunately, most of these
recipes don’t work effectively with corona virus but there are some which we will show you later that really work. But first, let’s talk about the rules
that can say that this sanitizer is actually working at destroying viruses
first and the most important rule is alcohol “ethanol” concentration you need between
60 to 95 % alcohol in the final hand sanitizer, this concentration, of course, is
high enough to break down the envelope of the corona virus and denature the proteins
inside it, so it can’t infect you. The other two ingredients are glycerol “glycerin”
and hydrogen peroxide. Glycerol or glycerin is a humectant moisturizer it’s
there to keep your hands moisturized because alcohol can cause dryness to your skin,
there are some other moisturizing ingredients but it's advisable to use
water-based moisturizing ingredients because alcohol-based hand sanitizers don’t
work effectively on greasy hands and the grease can help protect viruses. Hydrogen
peroxide is also included at low concentrations and it works as preservatives
in your sanitizer to make it last longer. It’s important also to sterilize
your containers and choose high-quality ingredients.
Hand sanitizers DIY myths
Until now alcohol-based sanitizers are the only thing
that can kill corona virus other than washing your hands with water and soap.
Some of the most used ingredients in DIY sanitizers that don’t have real consequences
to most viruses are benzalkonium chloride, essential oils and which hazel (if
you use it as a source of alcohol because it contains between
15 to 30% of alcohol and there is some is alcohol-free). We will show you some
of these DIY sanitizers that don’t work in destroying corona virus.
Good sanitizers dupes
And there are some good hand sanitizers recipes which
made by the World Health Organization recipes which we will add pictures
for them.
*caution:
These recipes will give you 10 liters of
sanitizer which no one needs so you can divide the amounts of the ingredients by
any number you want.
And there is another recipe which follows the rules and
can work.
Finally, we should aware that if you have the opportunity to wash your
hand with water and soap, of course, it is better and we will leave here a link for
a video on how to wash your hand correctly. We wish you all good health and
wellness.
